Workshop on Malaria Eradication


South Central Railway Medical department has organized a two day Workshop on “Capacity Building Towards Eradication of Malaria” for Health & Malaria Inspectors from 26th and 27th March, 2012,on anti-malarial activities. Group D staff involved in anti-malarial works also participated. This programme was organized with cooperation of Entomology Department of GreaterHyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC)

Chief Medical Director Dr. S.K.Sharma has inaugurated the Workshop. Shri S.K. Sharma, in his inaugural address explained the aims and objectives of the work shop. He stressed that Health Inspectors and Malaria Inspectors should acquire knowledge about modern methods in controlling mosquito menace. Group D employees such as Khalasis and Sr. safaiwalas who are practically attending in the operations Viz. fogging, spraying against mosquitoes, cleaning the drains to avoid stagnation of water needs to be imparted latest knowledge in application of modern methods , so that the implementation would be effective.

Sri. T. Ratna Joseph , Chief Entomologist, GHMC participated on both the days along with his staff. House to house survey to detect the mosquito breeding places and growth of larvae of different species of mosquitoes in and around the Railway quarters, bungalows and office premises in North and South Lallaguda colonies was carried out and also IEC activities were taken up by distributing pamphlets for each Railway Quarter under the guidance of Dr. C. Ravindra Sarma Addl.Chief Medical Director, Health & Family WelfareandSri.Ratna Joseph, Chief Entomologist ,along with all the participants by making groups.

Sri. T. Ratna Joseph trained Health and Malaria Inspectors on latest techniques in controlling mosquitoes, latest machines that were to be used and how to identify different species of mosquitoes and their life cycle. Live demonstration of breeding places of mosquitoes is also done. Different type of chemicals that are approved by Govt. of India for mosquito control are discussed . Different methods of control of mosquitoes were explained.Fogging and spraying against mosquito menace was carried out in South and North Lallaguda colonies in the evening. Dr. S.D.Prasad, Chief Health Director, was also present for the work shop on both days.Participants were given certificates by the Chief Medical Director. The programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Sri G. Israel Raju, Assistant Health Officer/ Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad. Entomology Department.
